The IOM Special Liaison Office Mission in Ethiopia works through the Emergency and Post Crisis Unit to contribute to UNDAF Pillar 1 outcome number 4; “By 2015, national and subnational institutions and disaster-prone communities have systematically reduced disaster risks, impacts of disasters and have improved food security”. This is in line with the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) that aims at contributing to the Growth and Transformation Program of the Federal overnment of Ethiopia.

Enhanced Response Mechanisms for Disaster Affected People(ERM):
Two warehouses have been installed in Somali and Gambella regional states to facilitate prepositioning of emergency shelter and non-food items (ES/NFI).
Engagement with public/private development actors
IOM has finalized a study in Gambella and Somali regions to determine the cause and effects of disasters on communities caused by the inadvertent actions of public and private developers
Internal Displacement Monitoring Report (IDMR)
The objective of the IDMR is to bring about timely and accurate data on causes, number of individuals affected, locations of displacement as well as needs verses response, in order to improve humanitarian response and to advocate for durable solutions.
Durable Solution for Pro tracted IDPs in Ethiopia
IOM has provided technical support to the Harari Regional Government in conducting a return intentions survey for the 900 protracted IDP caseloads in the region. Similarly; IOM is providing technical support to the Somali Regional Government on a return intentions survey for a case load of 264,734 individuals.
Humanitarian Coordination Mechanisms
IOM is part of the humanitarian coordination mechanisms; this include the government led Disaster Risk Management Technical Working Group (DRMTWG) – led by DRMFSS) at Federal and regional levels. IOM is also the cluster co-lead for emergency shelter and non food items (ES/NFIs).
Shelter and livelihoods support to refugees and host communities
IOM works with UNHCR and ARRA to build transitional shelter and provide livelihood interventions for refugees in Pugnido, Dollo Ado, and Benishangul Gumuz based refugee camps. IOM has also provided ES/NFIs for cross border people of concern in Moyale town.
Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR)
IOM is providing technical assistance to the Federal Government of Ethiopia and Regional Government of Benishangul Gumuz for the reintegration of Former Combatants with funding from the European Union
